Kitchen Garden Courtyard

An addition to a typical worker’s house in Bondi Sydney. The main house was kept while the rear skillion was removed for the straightforward addition of the entertaining rooms. The addition joined the old with a continuous skylight. The first room consists of the kitchen and dining area, then a step down to the living room, opening onto the garden. Instead of a verandah along the length of the house, it was rotated 90 degrees to screen out the neighbours and orientate it to the north. It ends in a laundry that doubles as an entertainment centre with an external sink and barbecue area which frames the kitchen garden.
